1. Can I get a temporary permit instead of renewing a registration on a vehicle that I intend to sell?

No. Once a vehicle is registered under your name, a temporary permit cannot be issued.

2. Must I have a bill of sale?

You have three options:

• Notarized bill of sale or one with the perjury statement
• Purchase price noted on the title assignment section
• Statement of Purchase filled out in the Motor Vehicle Office

3. How do I get a title for a vehicle I have purchased if there is no title in existence?

4. If someone purchases a vehicle and the title is in two names and one is deceased, how do they sign off the title?

If the title shows Joint Tenancy with Rights of Survivorship (JTWROS), a copy of the death certificate needs to accompany the title. The other name is signed off normally as seller.

5. If someone purchased a vehicle and the title is in two names but Joint Tenancy with Rights of Survivorship does not show on the title, how is the title signed off?

A copy of the death certificate and an original Small Estate Affidavit must be supplied by seller with the other seller signing normally, or copies of the ourt documents for probate must accompany the title along with the death certificate and the personal representative must sign for the deceased owner. The second owners signs normally. Note: Small Estate Affidavits must be originals.
