Permit Application
The Sheriff’s Office provides the materials necessary to obtain a Concealed Carry Permit for the State of Colorado. Applications can either be picked up at the Sheriff’s Office front desk or can be downloaded from this web-site. In order to obtain a new permit, you must submit the following:
- Application (signed in front of a Sheriff’s Office Clerk or Deputy)
- A certificate of handgun training signed by a certified instructor (valid for ten years)
- Cash or personal check for $152.50 payable to Archuleta County Sheriff's Office.
- Two completed fingerprint cards (obtained and completed by a Sheriff’s Office Clerk or Deputy)
- Fingerprints are done on Wednesday's from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.
The Archuleta County Sheriff's Office does not accept certificates from on-line training classes!!

New permit applications can take up to three months for the background checks to be completed. The Sheriff’s Office will contact you upon notification of acceptance. You will be asked to make an appointment to come to the Sheriff’s Office for the permit card to be made.
Renewal
In order to obtain a CHP renewal, you must submit the following:
- Application (signed in front of a Sheriff’s Office Clerk or Deputy)
- Cash or personal check for $50.00 payable to Archuleta County Sheriff's Office.
- Proof that you have completed a handgun training course within the past ten years
Renewal permit applications can take up to one month for the background check to be completed. The Sheriff’s Office will contact you upon notification of acceptance. You will be asked to make an appointment to come to the Sheriff’s Office for the permit card to be made.
