Concealed Handgun Permit

Consistent with Colorado State Law (Colorado Revised Statutes CRS 18-12-100,200) the Archuleta County Sheriff shall issue permits for county residents to carry concealed handguns, known as a Concelaed Handgun Permit (CHP).

If you are interested in applying for a Concealed Handgun Permit from the Archuleta County Sheriff’s Office, please read the following instructions carefully.  

You may obtain a Concealed Handgun Permit application by:

  • Downloading and Printing the Application. (Last Page of Packet)
  • Picking up an application at the Archuleta County Sheriff’s Office located at 449 San Juan Street, Pagosa Springs.
  • By calling 970-264-8430 and requesting an application packet to be sent to you.

If you decide to download the application, please review the accompanying Concealed Handgun Permit Packet thoroughly.  The packet provides information you will need to know to complete the application.

Please bring the following to the Sheriff’s Office:

  • A completed Concealed Handgun Permit application.
  • Proof of Handgun training with original signatures.
  • A certified check or money order payable to Colorado Bureau of Investigations (C.B.I.)
    • $52.50 for a new permit
    • $13.00 for a renewal permit*.
    • NO PERSONAL CHECKS OR CASH

We will take your application for processing as well as two sets of fingerprints for C.B.I. to process. 

Once C.B.I. notifies our office that you have a clear background for a Concealed Handgun Permit, you will be contacted to return to the Sheriff’s Office for your permit card.  This appointment will take about 10 minutes, at this time your photo will be taken and you will need to pay a $10 fee for your permit (this can be either a personal check or cash).

*Renewal Permit Expired more than 180 Days: 
Must reapply under the 2003 legislation:  Standard application, background/fingerprint check, proof of training.  The fees for new permits apply. CRS 18-12-211 (1)
