Archuleta County Inmate Information

When the facility opened its doors back on October 10th 1990, it was originally set up to house 22 inmates. Today, the facility can house 32 inmates, and maintains an average daily population of 24. The detention facility takes in arrestees for all local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies. This includes the Pagosa Springs Police Department, Colorado State Patrol, and the Colorado Department of Corrections.


The primary objective of the Archuleta Detention Facility is to maintain a clean, safe and secure environment for all inmates and detention staff. Detention staff also ensures court appearances of those accused of unlawful behavior prior to adjudication, and administers court ordered sanctions / punishments to those individuals convicted of a crime.

Special Services Unit

The Special Services Unit (SSU) consists of a Lieutenant and three detention officers. They are responsible for transporting inmates to court as well as to other detention centers / prisons throughout the state. They provide court security while inmates are in court and retrieve fugitives who are arrested outside of the county on Archuleta County charges.

All inmates have been transferred to La Plata County Detentions.  All family and friends of the inmates will need to contact La Plata County Detention Facility with any questions about visitation.
