Mission Statement

The mission of the Archuleta County Clerk & Recorder’s Office Election Department is to serve the public of Archuleta County by performing all constitutional and statutory duties, ensuring the integrity of elections.

The Election Department is run by the County Clerk & Recorder who is the Chief Election Official for all Archuleta County Elections. The Election Department conducts all Federal, State, County and School District Elections in addition to conducting Coordinated Elections for Municipalities and Special Districts. The Election Department also serves as the custodian of all voter registration records for voters in Archuleta County. 

New and Current Registration Information
You may register at the Election’s Office located in the Archuleta County Courthouse at 449 San Juan Street, downstairs.  The easiest access is from the back of the building.  Valid acceptable identification is required.  You may access the following link to find that list.

How Do I Register To Vote?
Every person who is 16 years of age and applying for Colorado Driver’s License may now choose to register to vote.  They will not be allowed to vote until they reach the age of 18 by the time the election they wish to vote for comes up.  Any other person who is 18 years of age or older on the date of the next election and who has the following qualifications is entitled to register to vote:
  • A citizens of the United States    
  • A resident of the State of Colorado and the precinct in which the person intends to register for at least 22 days immediately prior to the election.    
  • Being 16 years of age or older.
No person while serving a sentence of detention or confinement in a correctional facility, jail location a felony conviction or while serving a sentence of parole shall be eligible to register to vote or vote in any election.

Anyone registering to vote must sign the self-affirmation.

Self Affirmation
I affirm that I am a citizen of the United States, I have been a resident of the State of Colorado for at least 22 days, I am at least sixteen years old and understand that I must be eighteen years old to be eligible to vote, I meet the registration qualifications and belief and I further affirm that I will not cast more than one ballot in any election.  I am aware that if I register to vote in Colorado I am also considered a resident of Colorado for motor vehicle registration and operation purposes and for income tax purposes.  I further affirm that my present address as stated herein is my sole legal place of residence and that I claim no other place as my legal residence.

How to register or make changes to my voter record in person
You may register to vote at the office of the Archuleta County Election’s office, the Town Clerk’s office, the Department of Human Services or at any Colorado Driver’s License office.  In order to register to vote in person, you need to provide a valid Colorado Driver’s License number if you have one.  You may also supply the last four number of your social security number, C.R.S. 1-2-204(2)(f.5).

By Mail
If you are registering to vote for the first time in the State of Colorado and you are mailing your completed Voted Registration Application form in, you must provide one of the following identification numbers:  Colorado Driver’s License number or ID number issued by the Department of Revenue; if you do not yet have one, you shall provide the last four digits of the voter’s Social Security number.  If you have not been issued a Social Security number, you must provide a copy of one of the forms of identification in Secretary of State’s Rule 30.1.6, C.R.S. 1-2-501(2)(a) and 1-1-104(19.5).
