Archuleta County has adopted a conceptual design for a 120 acre regional park at the north end of Cloman Dr. near the airport. Land for the park, potentially available under the Recreation and Public Purposes Act, will be pursued from the Bureau of Land Management for a minimal fee. This conceptual design is required by the BLM prior to transfer.
Project Status: Winston Associates has completed a report for the conceptual design and estimate of cost to build this park. This report is the basis for acquiring the northern and eastern 40 acre parcels (80 acres total) from the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) under the Recreation and Public Purposes (R&PP) Act.
The R&PP application will be submitted to the BLM following Board approval, scheduled for September 18, 2007.
The western 40 acre parcel will be acquired by direct sale from the BLM to the County. The county has contracted with Rhea Environmental Consulting to produce the Environmental Assessment on these parcels of property that is required by the BLM prior to their decision to sell. The EA is complete and currently under review by the BLM resource specialists. Adjacent landowners have been notified directly by the BLM of the proposed action, and the action has been listed in the Federal Register and entered the 45 day public comment period.
