Archuleta County and the Town of Pagosa Springs have instituted the Code RED Emergency Notification System – a high-speed telephone communication service for emergency notifications. This system allows emergency management personnel to telephone all or targeted areas of the county to notify residents of an emergency situation that requires immediate action. Emergency management personnel will record a message with specific instructions for an event. The system then delivers the message to a live person or an answering machine, making at least three attempts to connect to any given number. The system is capable of dialing 50,000 phone numbers per hour.
THIS SYSTEM IS USED FOR EMERGENCY NOTIFICATION PURPOSES.
Uses of the system include flash floods, fires, missing children, water contamination, evacuation notices, utility outages, chemical spills and other emergency where rapid and accurate notification is essential for life safety. The system may also be used to notify residents in the immediate area of prescribed fires.
