County Seeks Applicants for Energy Advisory Board
The Board of County Commissioners is seeking interested and qualified applicants to serve on the newly formed Energy Advisory Board.
It is preferred that applicants be residents of the County for at least the past six (6) months and anticipate uninterrupted continued full-time residence, due to attendance requirements.
The Board of County Commissioners anticipates all committees working cooperatively in a close relationship with their counter-parts at the Town of Pagosa Springs.
The Energy Advisory Board will be staffed by the Planning Division of the County’s Development Services Department.
Archuleta County Energy Advisory Board (EAB)
The EAB will be comprised of two (2) sub-committees: Resource Management and Energy Development. An overlapping Executive Committee will coordinate the subcommittees.
The Resource Management Committee will be concerned with the management and regulation of the surface and subsurface extraction of natural gas, oil, coal, sand, gravel and other mineral resources. This committee will monitor State and Federal legislation, industry technology and research, and will review and advise on related County ordinances and land use regulations, recommending technical and policy changes.
The Committee will be made up of equal numbers of industry representatives with active exploration or extraction operations with current permits by the County and/or State.
Applicants should have a work-related background, license, degree, or own County property directly affected by or have a practical knowledge of mineral extraction or resource management (including but not limited to water, forestry, wildlife, etc.).
Legal, engineering, geology, hydrology, petroleum and natural gas extraction, and critical wildlife habitat expertise is especially sought, as well as representation from affected property owners.
The Energy Development Committee will advise the Planning Commission and Board of County Commissioners on energy related policy, technology, and legislation. Additionally, they will advise the County on the development, promotion and management of alternative technologies and potential commercial and residential applications within the County, including the encouragement and promotion of energy conservation and commercial alternative energy applications as a source of economic development for the County and region.
Applicants with technical backgrounds or hands-on experience in solar, geo-thermal, wind, bio-mass, greenhouse and other alternative energy technologies, as well as those with engineering, architecture, planning, geology, resource or business management, marketing and business are encouraged to apply.
This will be a “hands-on” committee providing expertise to business and homeowners and proposing demonstration and “start-up” commercial activities intended to lead to local job creation and market differentiation.
Those interested in any of the above appointments and committee assignments should contact Rick Bellis, Director of County Development, by email at: rbellis@archuletacounty.org or (fax) 970-731-3881, with a brief resume or letter outlining your area of interest and qualifications. Please identify the committee or committees you are applying for in order of preference. |
