INFORMATION FOR MAIL-IN (ABSENTEE) VOTING
If you will not be at your registered address during this year’s elections and would like to vote by Mail-In Ballot, you may mail or fax a current Mail-In Ballot application to the election department.
1. Make application in person, by mail or fax to our office. You may download the Mail-In Ballot Application Form and fax or mail the form to us. A request for a Mail-In Ballot can be made by a letter, as long as the request contains the required information. Any request for a Mail-In Ballot is required to contain the following information:
A. Applicant's Printed Name
B. Applicant's legal address for voter registration
C. Applicant's mailing address where you wish the ballot to be mailed
D. Applicant's Date of Birth
E. Applicant's Signature
If this information is not provided, you may not receive a Mail-In Ballot according to the rules established by the Secretary of State (C.R.S. 1-8-104(6)).
2. If you wish to have the Mail-In Ballot mailed to you, we must receive the application in our office no later than 4:00 pm on the eleventh day prior to the election for which you are making your Mail-In Ballot application.
3. You may apply and receive a Mail-In Ballot in person up until 4:00 pm on the Friday prior to the election for which you are making your ballot application.
4. All Mail-In Ballots must be returned to The Archuleta County Election Department by 7:00 pm on the day of the election. If the ballot is returned by mail, it must reach our office by 7:00 pm on the day of the election. Postmarks do not count; the County Clerk must actually receive the voted ballot by 7:00 pm on Election Day. Any ballots received after this time will not be counted according to law.
5. Parents cannot complete applications for their children who are registered voters, nor can a spouse complete an application for his or her spouse. Each application for Mail-In Ballot must be signed by the applicant.
